Author: Jan Anderson-Toupin

Posted: September 02, 2010

With today's advanced medical treatments and increased life expectancies, chances are that most of us will be involved in the caregiving process, either as a caregiver, the recipient of care or perhaps both. Caregiving can take a toll on the care provider. It is wise to equip oneself with knowledge, tools, and services. This season Jeffery Hale Community Services will be sponsoring workshops on topics of interest to caregivers.

All workshops will take place in the Coin Soleil room, 2nd floor of the Jeffery Hale, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

  • Tuesday, October 5, 2010: The Mourning Proces, with Hélène Morrissette, Psychologist
  • Tuesday, February 1, 2011: Legal Advice for Caregivers with Brian A. Garneau, Attorney
  • Tuesday, May 3, 2011: Compassion Fatigue with Susan Von Der Haar, MSW

This special club is Jeffery Hale’s response to the growing demand by French-speakers to do volunteer work in English. Each month, you can help others while you practice your second language. English and French-speakers get together once a month to work to a variety of interesting tasks while conversing in small groups. The Chitchat Club is fun, informal and a great way to make new friends. Francophones, Anglophones and Allophones (people who speak another language besides French or English) are welcome.  For more information, please open the Chitchat Club poster (includes session dates for 2010-'11)

If you are a young adult (14 to 25) with special needs (physical and intellectual disabilities) or the parent of a special needs child (5 to 14), Jeffery Hale Community Services has a number of activities of interest to you. The goal is to help parents and caregivers cope with the challenges that may arise from having a disabled child and to provide social opportunities for such children and young adults.

We also help parents access services to which they and their child are entitled. As well we offer assisted inclusive activities for disabled children and their buddy or sibling. For more details, please go to our Special Needs brochure.

For the most recent schedule of activities, open the SNACS Activities document (in PDF). Participants (or parents) MUST register for these activities by calling Julie Slattery by the Wednesday before. Events will be cancelled if there are less than five participants.
