Q: How long is the wait at the Emergency?
A: This depends on the priority of your case. Shortly after you arrive at the hospital and check in at the reception desk, a nurse will assess your condition to determine the type of care you need.
After that, the actual wait time to see a doctor is hard to predict; it depends on how many other people are already waiting and the severity of their condition.
Q: What are the opening hours of the emergency?
A: Our emergency is open 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week.
Q: What is the phone number of the Jeffery Hale Medical Clinic?
A: The Jeffery Hale Clinic is a private medical clinic located in another building next door (next to the hospital and the pavilion).
The Jeffery Hale Clinic is located in the Jeffery Hale Medical Centre, 1248, chemin Sainte-Foy, office 202. You can reach them directly at 418 681-7854.
Q: Do I need an appointment to have lab tests done (blood work, urinalysis, etc.)?
A: You need an appointment weekday mornings from 7:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. You can walk in without an appointment during weekday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. until 3:15 p.m.
Walk-in clients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. If you arrive before 1:00 p.m., please register at the admission counter (at the emergency at the main entrance) to put your name on the waiting list.
Q: May I call the emergency to speak directly to a nurse or doctor?
A: No, sorry. Our staff and E.R. staff does not have time to take calls, but you can call 811 to speak to a nurse at Info-Santé. Service in both French and English is available at Info-Santé 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Q: How does the parking work?
A. You have to pay for parking during your visit to the Jeffery Hale. You can either pay at the gate when you leave between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. or at the pay station in the main building at any time, day or night.
Monthly parking passes are available for the families of those in our long-term care residence (CHSLD).
Q: What activity is taking place today for the residents who live at the Jeffery Hale?
Our special educator organizes a full calendar of activities for Jeffery Hale residents.
Q: Where is a bank machine?
There is are several automatic tellers at different banks along chemin Sainte-Foy if you need cash to pay for parking (or for any other reason).
Q: How do I get a Jeffery Hale hospital card (patient card)?
To get a Jeffery Hale hospital card, please visit the reception counter (at the emergency inside the main entrance). We will make the hospital card for you on the day of your actual visit to the Jeffery Hale, so be sure to arrive a 1/2 hour early for your appointment (sorry, we do not make them days ahead of time, even if you have an appointment at a later date).
Q: Where can I get something to eat or drink while I'm at the Jeffery Hale?
Depending on the time of day, you have a couple of choices. Our cafeteria is open seven days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. To get to the cafeteria take the stairs or elevator down to Level G (open map).
Our Cafe-Croissant boutique and coffee shop is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is on the main floor right around the corner from the emergency. (open map)
At any time of the day or night, there are vending machines downstairs on Level G near the entrance to the cafeteria.

Use the florist or gift shop of your choice. Call our receptionist at 418 684-JEFF (5333), ext. 0 to learn the resident's room number to give to the delivery service.

Q: Can I use my cell phone in the Hospital?
You can use a cell phone or other portable device in most places at Jeffery Hale, except inside the emergency's observation and consultation rooms, or at the medical imaging department (radiology). There is free wireless network access in the waiting rooms of the emergency and outpatient clinic.
Q: Can I get a wheelchair at the door?
Wheelchairs are available at the main entrance to the hospital near the emergency. If there are none, please ask at the admission counter at the emergency.
If you need help getting in and out of your car while at the Jeffery Hale, please ask a family member or friend to accompany you.
